Challenges
The most transformative impact on food security can be attributed to the digitalisation of agriculture (DigAg). From farm to fork every aspect of food production and procurement has exposure to the digital world, meaning that sensitive information is susceptible to cybercrime and ransomware. On average, a data security breach in ASEAN costs $3.05 Mn USD and $2.18 Mn USD in India (IBM and the Ponemon institute). The Asia Pacific (APAC) region faced the most cyber attacks in 2022 accounting for 31% globally. In response there has been a 15.6% rate of increase in cybersecurity professionals in APAC in 2022. Despite this, APAC remains short of 2.16 million cybersecurity experts (ISC2). Data security is pertinent in any sector, and we need to address the vulnerabilities in DigAg systems.
